Mental Health Support

Mental health encompasses our emotional, psychological, and social well-being, significantly impacting how we think, feel, and act. It is essential at every stage of life and influences how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Good mental health allows individuals to realize their full potential, cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively, and contribute to their communities. Conversely, mental health issues can affect anyone, leading to profound changes in mood, behavior, and thinking. Addressing mental health with the same seriousness as physical health through awareness, support, and treatment is crucial for fostering a healthy, balanced life.

Joe O'Malley, Ouimet Alumnus

“Twenty years ago, I had the honor of standing before a packed house at the Copley Marriott as the student speaker for the 2004 banquet. I was filled with promise and ambition. Only starting to golf the summer before freshman year at Don Bosco, my journey had led me to the St. Anselm golf team, a dream realized through hard work and dedication. The future possibilities were endless; however, life took an unexpected turn as I struggled with alcohol addiction, a battle that overshadowed my aspirations and, unfortunately, defined the next 15 years of my life.”

“The path to recovery was not easy. It took me six full years of relentless effort to rebuild my life, to reclaim my dreams, and to find my true self. I am now nine years into my recovery, living one day at a time as proof that it is never too late to turn your life around. During these years, I have dedicated myself to helping others facing similar struggles, driven by a deep understanding of the challenges and the triumphs that come with overcoming addiction. As the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Liaison for the Ouimet Fund, I am committed to providing support, guidance, and hope to those in need. My journey has taught me the power of resilience, the importance of seeking help, and the incredible transformations possible with the right support.”

“I invite anyone who is struggling to reach out. Whether you are facing similar challenges or know someone who is, please know that help is available. My story is just one example of how life’s toughest battles can lead to the most rewarding victories.”
