The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund has announced that it will transfer management of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament to the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA).
“This has been a difficult, but the correct decision for the Ouimet Fund. We have had 49 wonderful years with the Ouimet Memorial Tournament, but the expectations and needs of tournament management today are much more than our small staff can handle. We only do one major competitive golf tournament a year, and feel the event and the field will be much better served with the MGA’s great team managing it. The Ouimet Fund will be able to concentrate on fundraising events like the Ouimet Golf Marathon, and our Club Relations and major gifts efforts which are much closer to our core mission of supporting our Scholars,” said Ouimet Fund President Greg Gailius.
Director Dick Connolly has been the Ouimet Memorial Tournament Chair for the past 38 years and fully supports this change. He will continue to be involved in the event along with Executive Director Bob Donovan. They will work with MGA Executive Director Jesse Menachem and MGA President Tom Bagley on the transition details.
“We look forward to celebrating the 50th Ouimet Memorial next year and then have the MGA’s strong hand assume management of the event,” said Donovan.
