On Thursday, August 30th, 140 Ouimet Scholars and Friends participated in the 10th Annual Deutsche Bank Championship Pro-Am. Since the start of the tournament the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund has had the pleasure of supplying the caddies for the amateur players in the Pro-Am.
This year, the Ouimet Fund dedicated some of the caddying spots to our GOLD Alumni (Graduates of the Last Decade). These Alumni helped fundraise for the next generation of Ouimet Scholars. E.C. Encarcion ‘11, pictured, had the pleasure of caddying in Tiger Woods’ group. E.C., an assistant pro at Marlborough Country Club, raised money through his family, friends and the club members to caddy. When asked about his day, E.C. described it as, “one of the best experiences of my life.”
Alumnae, Christa Soderstrom ’06 was thrilled when she found out she was going to caddy in Rory McIlroy’s group. Not only did she have the opportunity to meet and walk side by side with Rory but she also met his girlfriend, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki.
All of the Ouimet Caddies had a great day walking inside the ropes with the pro’s they watch on TV every weekend. This is always a highlight event for our scholars and an exciting day for the Ouimet Fund to participate in.
