The Ouimet Fund is remembering Stan Thirsk, a legendary Kansas City golf professional and lifelong pro and mentor to Tom Watson.  Mr. Watson asked that a Ouimet endowed scholarship be named after Thirsk when Watson was honored with the Francis Ouimet Award for Lifelong Contributions to Golf in 2009.

Stan Thirsk was head professional at Kansas City Country Club for 31 years where he started teaching Tom Watson when he was 11 years old.  He was a member of the PGA and Kansas City Golf Halls of Fame.  He played on the PGA TOUR for several years, and competed in 18 major championships.  He won the PGA Senior Club Pro Championship in 1989.  Mr. Thirsk died on May 16, 2015 at age 87.

The Thirsk Scholarship is generally presented to a Ouimet Scholar who is studying at a PGM program.  This year, Christian Cardrelli is the 2014-2015 recipient.  He is a sophomore at Coastal Carolina University and worked at Salem Country Club.
