The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund notes with great sadness the passing of Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino.

“Mayor Menino was a great friend to the Ouimet Fund and was a major factor in the development of our very successful inner-city program in Boston. He, Diddie Cullinane and a dedicated consortium helped found, in 1996, what is now the City of Boston’s Summer Golf Management Program. It is a unique summer jobs program at William Devine – Franklin Park and George Wright Golf Courses that provides eligibility for Ouimet Scholarship applicants. Since that time, 95 students have received nearly $1 Million in Ouimet Scholarships. The Mayor was enormously proud of it, and spoke at our banquet three times about the inner-city program. Today, that program is the cornerstone of our state-wide inner city effort and development campaign. We are also very proud to now have 14 endowed scholarships dedicated exclusively to helping inner-city scholars. He will always be remembered for helping so many great kids become Ouimet Scholars,” said Ouimet Fund Executive Director Bob Donovan.
