On Wednesday, June 10, The Fund saw the fruits of its two-month recruitment project come to labor as 192 caddies took their place under the straps during the Accenture Pro-Am as part of the Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship. One of five majors on the Champions Tour, the Championship saw many legends of the game tee it up at one of The Fund’s 26 Centennial Bag Tag clubs.
Thanks to a targeted outreach to current Scholars and recent Alums in cooperation with caddiemasters and pros throughout the New England section, the caddie corps was not only strong in numbers, but also possessed great experience and knowledge. In total, some 51 Scholars and Alumni traversed the fairways, delivering the optimal level of service to their players. Ouimet Scholar Nate Marcoulier ’18, had the thrill of toting for Brad Faxon, recently honored as The Fund’s 17th recipient of its prestigious Lifelong Contributions to Golf Award. In addition to Faxon, 2012 Honoree Mark O’Meara was in the field prior to withdrawing due to a foot ailment.
The Fund was proud to be designated as one of the nine partner charities of the Championship.
As an interesting aside, the first and second round pairing of Faxon, Billy Andrade and Olin Browne featured three players who finished inside the top 10 of the Ouimet Memorial Tournament, all doing so in the early 80’s with Faxon taking home the hardware in 1980.
For the 14th year in a row, The Fund will recruit, manage and administer the caddie program at the Deutsche Bank Championship Pro-Am scheduled for September 3. Stay tuned to ouimet.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
