The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund is mourning the passing of John Sears, a long-time friend and supporter of The Fund and the Anders Caddies and Anders Scholarship at The Country Club. He and his late father had also been good friends of Francis Ouimet.

Mr. Sears is seen here at the 2010 Anders Tournament.

“Mr. Sears played a tremendously important role in Ouimet Fund history when, as Commissioner of the MDC, he arranged for the land lease that allowed the Fund to realize a long-term dream and build the first Golf House in 1975. The new building let us move from a small office in Boston, have good office space with the MGA and WGAM, have a museum, and we grew greatly in that location,” said Ouimet Executive Director Bob Donovan. Mr. Donovan then explained we were in that building on the grounds of the Leo Martin Golf Course in Weston from 1975-2002.
