The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund

First-Time Applicants

1. What is the scholarship process? The process begins with the request of an application in mid-summer. The completed application as well as three club recommendations, guidance counselor recommendation, transcript and SAT scores are due by 12/1. Financial aid forms are also required, just as they are for applying for college financial aid. Interviews are conducted of every new applicant during the winter, spring and/or early summer. Files must be complete by June. The scholarship committee meets in mid-August to determine the awards and notification and checks are sent in September.

2. How can I request an application? You can call the office at 774. 430.9090, or email us.

3. Is there more than one deadline for first-time applicants? YES. The deadlines are as follows:

December 1: • Completed application • Photograph • Three club recommendation forms • Guidance Counselor recommendation (H. S. Seniors & College Freshmen) • High School transcripts • SAT scores • College advisor/professor recommendation (sophomores & juniors in college) • Official college transcripts w/cum GPA of all work completed to date (sophomores & juniors in college) • All in-college applicants put in a request to have an official copy of their Fall Transcript sent to the Ouimet Fund at end of fall term.

March 1:• High school seniors must submit another transcript including any new SAT scores as well as final grades for terms 1 & 2. • All college students must have their Official fall transcript in. • Financial Aid Forms – FAFSA and CSS/Profile should be at least "in process" by now.

June 30: • All applicants should have had their personal interview by now. Interviews take place between February and May. • Both the FAFSA and CSS/Profile should be completed and in. • FAL (Financial Aid Letter) from your college along with your completed “APPLICATION REPLY FORM” (mailed from Ouimet Fund in late spring) must be received.

4. Do I need to complete any financial forms? Yes. All applicants seeking a financial award must complete both the “FAFSA” and the CSS/Profile.

5. How do I complete the financial forms? The easiest way to file these forms is “online.” For the FAFSA – first-time filers must first apply for a U.S. Department of Education PIN by visiting www.pin.ed.gov. If you have previously filed a FAFSA, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Ouimet Fund does not have a code number for the FAFSA. A few days after filing your FAFSA you must go back online and access your SAR (Student Aid Report), print it out and send to Marion Mackerwicz, Scholarship Administrator. Your SAR will provide us with your EFC (Effective Family Contribution) that is necessary in our calculations. For questions pertaining to your FAFSA call 1-800-801-0576. For the CSS/Profile – go to www.collegeboard.com. There is a fee involved however; it costs $2 less if you complete the on-line version. The Ouimet Fund Code No. 0467 must be used. For questions pertaining to your CSS/Profile call 1-800-778-6888.

6. I prefer to file the paper version. Where can I get them? The Ouimet Fund receives a limited supply of the CSS/Profile. However, most high school guidance offices have both the CSS/Profile and the FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) forms as well as public libraries.

7. The school I am attending does not require the CSS/Profile. Do I still need to complete this financial form? YES. All applicants seeking a financial award must complete both the FAFSA and the CSS/Profile.

8. I am a senior in high school and I don't have an application and/or I missed the December 1st postmark deadline. Am I ineligible? Not for this year, you must wait a year. At the beginning of the following summer, re-submit the online application request form or call the office and ask to be placed on the mailing list to receive an application.

9. I am already in college. Can I still apply for a Ouimet Scholarship? Yes, as long as you meet our requirements. This is a featured article, it could be a story about an ambassador, a new podcast, a report about a recent event or many other things.
