Oyster Harbors Club Leads
Ouimet Marathon
Fundraiser Rick Stimets and golfer Steve Colt of Oyster Harbors Club emerged as the top team in the Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund’s 19th Golf Marathon on Wednesday. Colt, an Oyster Harbors assistant pro played 120 holes with $23,000 in fundraising to lead 41 clubs and organizations. The Marathon was played, as always, at Stow Acres Country Club’s South Course. The event raised a total of $280,000 and the 2011 Ouimet Marathon, which is believed to be the highest fundraising Marathon in the US this year, brought the total raised since the event’s inception in 1993 to $4.2 Million. The 41 players played a total of 4,993 holes in a pleasant summer day following a heavy overnight rain. There have now been 99,463 holes played in 19 Ouimet Marathons.

“This was a perfect day for the Marathon, and the players were able to get in a lot of holes and really make a tremendous contribution to the Ouimet Fund,” said Dick Reilly, Ouimet Fund President.
Colt, a Plymouth resident, was playing for the first time in the Ouimet Marathon. Oyster Harbors was first in fund raising the prior three years.
Pat Bibaud of Worcester, a Ouimet
Scholar, played the most holes played with 202. It was his third straight year as total holes leader.
The golf scoring is based on 100 holes of play. Brian Hayes, a 29 year old New Seabury assistant pro, was low pro at seven under.
Michael Zmetrovich of Tedesco, a Ouimet Scholarship alumnus, was low amateur at six under. Rob Goodrich of Dedham, a 28 year old a film and TV executive, was low net. Mr. Goodrich is a Ouimet alumnus and represented the Ouimet Directors and Alumni. Brian Hayes of New Seabury was won both the morning and afternoon long drive competitions. It was the third straight year he was low pro and long drive champion.
Brian Golden of Winchester, the 43 year old Director of Golf at Sandy Burr, was recognized in the opening ceremonies for playing for 15 years in the Marathon. He played 102 holes. He is the “career” leader in holes played in the Marathon. Dan Venezio, an assistant pro at Myopia, had a hole in one on the 135 yard 11th hole with a pitching wedge.
