The Hobbs Award was established in 2004 after the death of John W. F. Hobbs. Mr. Hobbs was a lifelong lover of golf and a member of the Long Cove Club, The Kittansett Club, Mid-Ocean Club and Winchester Country Club. He was also very active with the United States Senior Golf Association and Chairman of their annual tournament at Kittansett. His late father, John W. F. Hobbs served on the MGA Executive Committee with Francis Ouimet in 1931. Mr. Hobbs was Vice President in charge of Real Estate Trusts for New England Merchants Bank until his retirement in 1986 and then head of the Hampton Beach Improvement Company in New Hampshire. The Hobbs Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from Kittansett who is a resident of Marion or a surrounding community.
Our 2009-2010 winner is Doug Snow of Marion. Doug is in his senior year at UMass-Dartmouth majoring in Economics with a 3.7 GPA. He performed his service to golf at The Kittansett Club where he worked as a caddie for 5 years. He is very involved on campus, and has also played in our golf marathon for the past few years and done a great job.
