The John P. Hamill Scholarship was established from the proceeds of the 2005 Spirit of Golf event in which Mr. Hamill was honored for his love of the game of golf and commitment to charitable and community endeavors. Mr. Hamill was Chairman of Sovereign Bank and formerly was President of Fleet National Bank and President at Shawmut. He is a member of Eastward Ho! Country Club, Cape Cod National
Golf Club, and Wellesley Country Club. The Hamill Scholarship is for a Ouimet Scholar from the inner-city.
Our scholarship winner this year is Andy Osei, a sophomore at Newbury College with an undeclared major. Andy did his service to golf at Worcester Country Club where he was a caddie for six years. Andy was raised in Africa, and despite many hardships in his life, has still managed to become a successful young man. He has a passion for sports, especially soccer, and is highly recommended by many at Worcester Country Club. He won our inaugural Harry and Muriel Player Endowed award in 2009.
Over the next few months we will be highlighting our various Endowed Scholarships, giving you a glimpse into who created them, and what scholars are recipients for 2010.
