Oscar Goings, Legendary Winchester Caddie Master, Dies on July 25, 2009
The Ouimet Fund is deeply saddened to report that Oscar Goings died Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 PM. He was 69 years old. He had been ill with cancer for some time.
Oscar spent 55 years connected with Winchester Country Club where he was truly beloved. In 2004 the club honored him with a large party to celebrate his 50th year with them. He was a caddie and caddie master for over 50 years and in 2008 Winchester named its Caddie Shack the “Oscar Goings Building.” He played in the Ouimet Golf Marathon fund raising event playing over 100 holes several times. He became the oldest person to play the Marathon at age 66 in 2006. He was inducted into the Professional Caddie Association Hall of Fame in a special ceremony in Orlando, FL in 2005.
