In February, Ouimet Alum Erik Robinson ’10 ventured out on an adventure of a lifetime as he traveled to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, “the roof of Africa,” as a fundraiser for Ouimet Scholarships!
Robinson graduated from Methodist University’s Professional Golf Management program and is now an Assistant Golf Professional at Morris County Golf Club in Morristown, New Jersey. While he considers himself a climber, he had never set his sights on a mountain as high or so dangerous.
Before the climb began, Erik was able to see Africa’s best wildlife, including lions, zebras and elephants. He also squeezed in a round of golf, tipping his caddie a lot more than the $2.50 fee! Check out his photos here!
The climb officially began on February 1, and Erik made it to the day six camp of seven (15,000 feet) before having to descend early due to a ruptured eardrum. While he unfortunately wasn’t able to reach the summit, Erik says he “loved it, would do it again, and had a great experience!”
Thank you, Erik, for surpassing your fundraising goal and reaching nearly $2,500 for Ouimet Scholarships! You can read more about the climb schedule and donate to Erik’s epic expedition here!
