The Francis Ouimet Scholarship Fund
Endowed Scholarships
Annual Endowed Reception - The Fund will hold a reception for endowed recipients and endowed creators/donors on Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at The Golf House in Norton. More information will be made available shortly. The Ouimet Fund is proud to release its 2007 Annual Report and Endowed Scholarship Brochure for 2007-2008.
The Fund had a record year and is off to another one. The Annual Report gives a great summary of our various activities, along with the names, clubs and schools of all of scholars and a listing of donors by category. The Endowed Scholarship Brochure includes a description of each of our 76 endowed scholarships and their honorees with their photos, along with photos and descriptions of each recipient. Information how to establish an endowed scholarship is also provided. Please click on the images above to view

Standing with Mr. York are Tom Martin (L) and Jim Logue ( R), Co-Chairs of the event who are Ouimet Fund Directors and former BC hockey greats. |

The event was held at The International on September 24 and its proceeds created a permanently endowed scholarship in Mr. York’s name for a Ouimet Scholar attending Boston College. Coach York was a double winner that day as he, Messrs. Martin and Logue teamed up with Tom Hynes to win low gross in the golf event. |

Annual Kenerson Cup
The first annual Kenerson Cup was held at Brae Burn Country Club on September 13. The event is named after Ted Kenerson, a former Ouimet Fund President (1992-94) who died in 2004. The Kenerson Cup was a one day member guest event which benefited the Ted Kenerson Brae Burn Caddie Scholarship within the Ouimet Fund. Standing in the photo are (l-r) Bruce Kenerson, Vic Melfa III, Travis Dewire, Jack Kenerson and Linda Kenerson. Bruce and Jack are the sons of the late Mr. Kenerson, while Linda is his widow. Melfa, of Mt. Pleasant CC, and Dewire, of Brae Burn, are Babson College seniors who won the inaugural event in a playoff after shooting a 70 in regulation.
Who Should Endow A Scholarship?
The ideal candidate is someone who has a deep affinity for golf, or has or had a parent or loved one who shares that deep affinity for golf, and who would like to be permanently associated with golf, Francis Ouimet and education. Family members, for instance, may together create an award in the name of their Mom or Dad. Other candidates include companies or clubs and organizations that are close to golf. Members of those organizations may collectively donate and may even approach vendors to contribute to a special cause.
How Can I Ensure That My Philanthropic Goals Are Realized?
The Ouimet Fund's endowed scholarship program allows the donor to personalize a scholarship by determining restrictions that are important to them. Current Ouimet endowed scholarships include awards for Ouimet Scholars who are planning to attend law school, outstanding business students, scholars from a particular club, or from a region of the state, a female scholar, an inner-city scholar, and students intending to pursue a specific career path. Donors may create their award with very defined restrictions or in broader terms, or the donor can opt to allow The Fund to select a deserving recipient. Regardless of the design of the specific award, the donor receives the benefit of knowing that 100% of the dollars contributed are invested and 100% of the revenue from the investment goes to scholarships.
What Will I Receive For My Contribution?
Most importantly you will receive the satisfaction that comes with realizing your goal of helping young people attain their college dreams. You will also receive information from The Fund detailing the student(s) who will be receiving your scholarship. Also, you will be invited to an annual reception honoring endowed scholarship donors and recipients at the Golf House. New endowments are announced to the local and golf media and annually the winners are also announced to the press. As a token of our gratitude, you will also receive a special “Francis Ouimet and Eddie Lowery” framed plaque which is presented to each sponsor or honoree usually at one of our events. Awards are listed annually in this publication and are permanently engraved on a special recognition board at the Ouimet Fund offices at the TPC of Boston.
